The Pardieiro (Dump) Necropolis is located on the western slope of the Virga mountain range between Odemira and Ourique. It had a good view of the setting sun. This is an 1873 Portuguese naval map showing the Mira River valley where it empties into the Atlantic. Photo from: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rio_Mira_na_Carta_Nautica_de_1873.png
(Sept 4, 2023) This runestone is one of three found at a necropolis on the western slope of a mountain (see map below). This necropolis consisted of 11 central steles covering pit graves carved out of the base rock and covered by large slabs. Some of these had decorations carved on them. Two other graves were found outside this central core.
After one of these runestones were found, the necropolis was archeologically excavated starting in 1971 under the coordination of Caetano de Mello Beirão and Virgílio Hipólito Correia. It was dated to 500 BCE.
