SN1 Nipper: Pleasing INANNA
Sumerian cylinder seal now at the Oriental Museum at the University of Chicago. It is carved out of blue Lapis Lazuli 22 mm high and 11 mm in diameter). It was found at Inanna temple IV in a drain in the Sumerian city of Nippur in modern day Iraq on November 2, 1956. It is dated the the Third Dynasty of Ur between 2050 and 2200 BCE. The scene shows a priestess leading a supplicant towards a goddess. Between them is the symbol combining the crescent moon (INANNA) with the watery sun disk (AN)
