Pagans today seek to connect to the divine powers guided by ancient European ancestral traditions and concepts. Paganism is a path and not a faith. Paganism is defined by goals instead of by dogmas.
A subset of Paganism are the Nature Pagans who mainly seek divine connections via the aide of natural correspondences and seek to live a life coherent with deep natural principles. For whatever reason the universe was created, aligning with its powers brings us into harmony with the divine will.
Neolithic people had no sacred texts so Nature Paganism is all they knew. That was their culture.
The core of any perceptheistic/magical spiritual practice are feelings. These feelings are non-material conscious experiences having various levels of emotional energy. Consciousness experiences represent the non-material spiritual realm which is separate from the physical realm. No theory of physics explains consciousness.
Some modern Pagans use surviving ancient texts as their Bible, that is, they use them as their authority on how to be and live as a Pagan. This dogmatic use of the texts is different from using them as inspiration and as a source of ideas. These reconstructionist Pagans tend to be followers of Roman, Greek, Egyptian, Norse, or Celtic texts.
(June 9, 2023, Updated April 14, 2025) Many Pagan paths of today do not follow the old emotion magic ways as revealed in the ancient runic texts being translated on this site. They either ignore spiritual connectivity completely being more of a nationalist revival, or think magic is simply a sequence of passionless incantations and divination techniques.

(June 9, 2023) How does prayer or any communication with the spiritual realm really work? Are you on the phone or radio with some deity? Of course not! The energy of physics is a physical phenomena which does not cross over into the non-material realm of consciousness. Only feelings have that possibility. Using feelings for that purpose is emotion magic, in other words, witchcraft.

(July 3, 2022) This well done video uses the word "Pagan" as meaning "nature spirituality." Any spirituality involves feelings of connection with the believed sources of existence. Nature spirituality assumes the sources of existence are the various powers of nature found in both its physical and spiritual (conscious) realms and not some human-like god living apart from nature on a higher plane. Also notice that Paganism (Druidry) in both its spiritual and religious forms is an ever growing personal path and not a static dogmatic faith.
(July 3, 2022) Spirituality without purpose is just another feel-good drug in a society full of such drugs and diversions. Yet in the end what good is self-absorbed spirituality in the greater scheme of things?
Early Christianity faced this same issue due to its early emphasis on gifts of the Holy Spirit. The apostle Paul issued this warning to those new Christians who only wanted to feel good and powerful.
If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. (Corinthians 13:1-3 NIV)
